- And, so much more!!!
If that isn’t enough, a portion of all sales are given directly to Doggie Orphans Great and Small (aka D.O.G.S. or Doggies, Inc.), an Okinawan rescue organization that saves dogs from being euthanized in local shelters.
Every dog rescued from this e-book’s donations will be named in honor of one of the fine cafés in Okinawa. So, if after your purchase you meet a "Doka" or a "Hale Noa" at the dog park, you can give yourself a pat on the back and know that you’ve made a difference.
YOU KNOW THE WHAT, NOW KNOW THE WHY...
I have a confession… When I first moved to Okinawa in May of 2016, I did NOT like it.
It was hot, sticky, confusing, and it felt as though every creepy-crawly was out to kill me. Then, in October of that same year, I was told that I was pregnant... with TWINS!
"Twins" made me believe that I was going to be under house arrest for the next 18 years once they were born. Out of sheer panic, I decided to edge my way out of my comfort zone. Braving other-side-of-the-road driving, lack of road signs, lack of knowing the language, and overall anxiety of possibly looking like an idiot I began to try out new places to eat. (Selfish motivation: once past morning sickness and being pregnant with twins, food was pretty much all I could think about.)
I did this for a couple of weeks (trying out a new cafe every other day or so), and do you know what happened? I became more confident in my abilities to drive while navigating the small roads with Google maps, understanding the locals, and being okay with knowing that I will sometimes look like an idiot.
My ventures began to take me further and further, trying new and more adventurous places and cuisines. I laughed with the locals, and gazed in awe at the jaw-dropping views. I’ve eaten more delicious meals than I ever have in my life. Some are actually served right in the homes of the sweet local Okinawans.
They have made me feel welcome. They have made me feel like family.
Most surprising of all, somewhere along the way, I fell madly in love with this island that I call home.
My sincere hope in producing this e-book is that you will get as much (or more!) from visiting these places as I have. Chances are, you will only be on this island for a short time. I encourage you to make the most of it, and have an amazing adventure along the way. Oh – and I would love to hear about your adventures so please feel free to drop me a line.
